Podcast & broadcast rooms / APPLICATION GUIDE

A clearer brief for spoken-word spaces.

Podcast and broadcast rooms often combine hard desks, glazing, cameras and several microphones. Acoustic curtains can form a flexible absorptive backdrop around the conversation area.

THE ROOM & THE REQUIREMENT

Speech reflections & camera backgrounds.

A room that looks comfortable on camera can still produce audible reflections at a microphone. Treatment should be positioned around the people speaking and the surfaces returning sound, with the recording setup tested before the final coverage is chosen.

01

Reduce reflected voice energy

Use suitable absorptive fabric at selected walls to help control the room contribution to recordings.

02

Build a repeatable set

A continuous curtain background conceals visual clutter and creates a consistent camera frame.

03

Control changing daylight

Specify an appropriate light-control layer at windows when exposure needs to stay consistent through a session.

PLACEMENT & SPECIFICATION

Make the detail
fit the room.

Place perimeter curtains behind and beside the speaking area where useful, leaving camera access, ventilation and equipment routes clear.

Performance boundaryAbsorption can reduce room reflections but does not remove microphone noise, direct background noise or transmission through walls and doors.

What to establish

Microphones and table
Record where each speaker sits and which surfaces are close to the microphones.
Camera field of view
Check the curtain colour, seams, stack positions and visible track in every camera angle.
Background noise
Identify ventilation, computers and outside noise separately from room reverberation.

Confirm the selected material’s certificates, care requirements and the final track and fixing design for your installation.

FABRIC STARTING POINTS

Build your shortlist.

Compare these ranges against the room brief. A suggested range is not a verified performance prediction for your room or selected lining.

Acoustic MoltonA practical starting point for combined masking and acoustic treatment.

Coloured Wool SergeColour options for a branded set, subject to available cut-price colours.

Premier Blackout 3.0mA light-control option to assess where windows affect exposure.

YOUR PROJECT BRIEF

Bring the room
into the conversation.

A room plan, seating and microphone layout, camera views, window dimensions and examples of the room sound.

Does a blackout curtain also guarantee good podcast acoustics?

No. Light exclusion and acoustic absorption are different properties. Select the acoustic fabric using its test data and assess any added lining as part of the final assembly.
