01 / MATCH THE MOUNTING CONDITIONS

A fairer comparison
starts with the setup.

Select the same fullness and wall cavity for every fabric. A missing result means that configuration has not been transcribed here—not that the fabric has zero absorption.

SAC classificationManufacturer’s published single-number label.
Bar scale: 0.00 to 1.00.

Nominal mounting conditions are matched here. Check individual reports for specimen details and test methods before treating results as directly interchangeable. SAC classification is not a room noise-reduction percentage, an octave-band coefficient or a sound-insulation rating.

02 / LOOK BEYOND ONE NUMBER

Performance changes
with frequency.

This documented example shows Acoustic Molton in one tested assembly. We only display frequency data that has been transcribed from its report.

03 / READ THE EVIDENCE

What the test tells you.

The report, the rating and the installed room each answer a different question. Keep that context with the number.

01 / MEASUREMENT

Absorption in a chamber.

The example report measures random-incidence sound absorption, generally to BS EN ISO 354:2003. Reverberation is compared with and without the specimen in the chamber.

The reported values belong to the stated specimen area, fullness and mounting. The diagram above explains the principle; it does not reproduce the laboratory layout.

02 / RATINGS

Different ways to read it.

αs is the measured coefficient series. αp is the practical octave-band series; this report states BS EN ISO 11654:1997. The report also lists αw and its absorption class.

NRC is listed separately under ASTM C 423-01. The brochure’s “SAC classification” wording is retained in our configuration tables, so it is not silently relabelled as another metric.

03 / APPLICATION

A room needs its own review.

An absorption test is not a transmission-loss or soundproofing test. It cannot, on its own, tell you how many decibels of noise will be stopped between rooms.

Match the fabric and tested construction first. Then consider treated area, room geometry, existing surfaces and use. Our room calculator is an estimate with explicit assumptions.

documentation.

Fabric fire certificates and light-control specifications are available in the document library. We have not converted these into a blanket pass/fail claim for a finished installation.
