Film & TV studios / APPLICATION GUIDE

Take control of the light around the set.

Film and television spaces need repeatable lighting, clear working routes and backgrounds that suit the shot. Drapery can provide window light control, perimeter masking and selected acoustic treatment.

THE ROOM & THE REQUIREMENT

Light spill & set masking.

Unwanted daylight or reflections from the surroundings can change the picture between takes. A dark cloth may provide useful visual masking without delivering full blackout, so the optical requirement needs to be stated before selecting the fabric.

01

Manage daylight spill

Treat windows and openings with a light-control assembly designed around its edges and overlaps.

02

Mask equipment and off-set areas

Use continuous drapes to conceal service areas and define the visible shooting space.

03

Address room reflections

Where dialogue recording is important, compare tested absorptive fabrics and coordinate them with the sound team.

PLACEMENT & SPECIFICATION

Make the detail
fit the room.

Plan independent curtain runs for windows and set boundaries so that lighting changes do not force every acoustic surface to change.

Performance boundaryMasking cloth is not automatically blackout, and an ordinary drape is not a fire curtain or a certified sound-isolating partition.

What to establish

Lighting conditions
Specify the outside light level, lamp positions and the required result on camera.
Access and rigging
Coordinate tracks with lighting grids, cable runs, doors and safe working routes.
Fabric care
Check the fabric certificate, care method and suitability for the production environment.

Confirm the selected material’s certificates, care requirements and the final track and fixing design for your installation.

FABRIC STARTING POINTS

Build your shortlist.

Compare these ranges against the room brief. A suggested range is not a verified performance prediction for your room or selected lining.

Premium Molton 3.0A wide masking range for set boundaries.

Acoustic MoltonFor masking positions where absorption also matters.

Premier Blackout 3.0mFor assessing a dedicated light-control layer.

Can one curtain do all three jobs?

It may meet more than one requirement, but each property must be checked separately. Confirm light exclusion, acoustic evidence and the final construction rather than relying on the fabric colour.
