Photography studios / APPLICATION GUIDE

Make the light a choice.

Photography studios benefit from the ability to switch between daylight and controlled lighting. Made-to-measure curtains can cover glazed areas, screen storage and change the visible background.

Illustrative placement study. Curtain coverage, cavity and access are designed for your actual room.

THE ROOM & THE REQUIREMENT

Daylight control & flexible backgrounds.

Direct sunlight, reflected light and bright gaps around a window can affect exposure and colour consistency. The position of the curtain relative to the glazing, and the amount of overlap at its edges, are as important as the fabric itself.

01

Switch lighting modes

Open curtains for daylight sessions and close a suitable light-control assembly for flash or continuous-light work.

02

Screen the working area

Hide equipment storage or create a visual changing area without rebuilding the studio.

03

Support video sessions

Include an acoustic requirement if the same room is used for interviews or product videos with recorded speech.

PLACEMENT & SPECIFICATION

Make the detail
fit the room.

Run the window track beyond the glazed opening where possible and reserve clear stack space outside the useful daylight area.

Performance boundaryA manufacturer’s fabric light-exclusion figure does not guarantee a light-tight studio. Gaps, doors and other untreated openings must be considered.

What to establish

Window geometry
Measure the full opening, returns and the position available for track and edge overlaps.
Background appearance
Test a physical sample under your lights for texture, sheen and colour.
Daily use
Plan how curtains move between shooting setups without obstructing stands or circulation.

Confirm the selected material’s certificates, care requirements and the final track and fixing design for your installation.

FABRIC STARTING POINTS

Build your shortlist.

Compare these ranges against the room brief. A suggested range is not a verified performance prediction for your room or selected lining.

Premier Blackout 3.0mA wide light-control option for window and perimeter runs.

Eclipse Lining 2.8A three-pass blackout lining to assess within a layered curtain.

Acoustic MoltonFor combined visual masking and recorded-video applications.

YOUR PROJECT BRIEF

Bring the room
into the conversation.

Window dimensions, the daylight or controlled-light workflow, background colour preferences and any video recording requirement.

Discuss your project ↗
Will black fabric give me a neutral photographic background?

Not automatically. Surface texture and lighting angle affect the image. Test the chosen cloth with your lighting and camera before finalising the colour and finish.
