Curtain care & maintenance
Maintain the fabric, lining and track using instructions for the actual materials and installed system.
Identify the fabric first
Keep the product name, colour, supplier documentation and installation record together. Face fabric, lining and coatings may have different cleaning requirements. A generic curtain-cleaning method is not suitable for every technical fabric.
Remove dust only as permitted
Follow the manufacturer’s routine-care instructions. If gentle vacuuming is allowed, use the recommended attachment and support the cloth so suction does not pull on headings or damage coatings. Avoid dragging the hem across a dirty floor.
Treat marks cautiously
Check the care sheet before applying water, detergent, solvents, stain removers or steam. Test only where the manufacturer permits, and seek advice for coated, treated or unidentified materials. Do not assume a domestic washing or dry-cleaning cycle is suitable.
Protect documented fire performance
Cleaning and maintenance can matter to the performance of treated materials. Confirm the manufacturer’s instructions and any requirements for re-treatment or assessment. Retain records; appearance alone does not verify a material’s classification.
Inspect the moving system
Check seams, heading attachments, carriers, stops and visible brackets for damage or unusual operation. Do not force a sticking curtain or lubricate a track without its manufacturer’s guidance. Arrange an assessment if a fixing is loose or the system behaves unexpectedly.
Plan maintenance access
High-level and motorised installations need suitable access and competent servicing. Keep the track specification and operating instructions available. Where a curtain is damaged, ask whether local repair or replacement is appropriate.
