Places of worship / APPLICATION GUIDE

Respect the space. Consider every voice.

Places of worship may need to balance spoken services, music, community events and the character of the building. Retractable acoustic curtains offer one way to vary treatment while keeping the room’s different uses in mind.

THE ROOM & THE REQUIREMENT

Speech, music & reversible treatment.

A reverberant building can suit some music while making amplified speech difficult in certain positions. The right approach depends on the building, the sound system and the congregation area, rather than a blanket instruction to cover the walls.

01

Add adjustable absorption

Use curtains at agreed treatment positions where reducing reflections supports the room brief.

02

Preserve operating flexibility

Retract selected runs for activities that call for a different room response.

03

Manage presentation light

Where appropriate, control light at windows used around projection and community events.

PLACEMENT & SPECIFICATION

Make the detail
fit the room.

Agree treatment positions with the venue and design team, considering sightlines, architectural features and any restrictions on fixings.

Performance boundaryCurtains cannot by themselves resolve every intelligibility issue. Loudspeaker design, background noise and the building’s acoustic response also matter.

What to establish

Speech and music balance
Describe the service formats, instruments and use of amplification.
Building constraints
Identify important features, fixing limitations and access requirements before choosing track routes.
Assessment positions
Evaluate the experience across the congregation area rather than only near a microphone.

Confirm the selected material’s certificates, care requirements and the final track and fixing design for your installation.

FABRIC STARTING POINTS

Compare these ranges against the room brief. A suggested range is not a verified performance prediction for your room or selected lining.

Wool Serge 565An acoustic range to compare within the available coverage and load constraints.

Wool Serge 3.0mA wider option for appropriately designed curtain runs.

YOUR PROJECT BRIEF

Bring the room
into the conversation.

Building plans or photographs, speech and music uses, sound-system information and any fixing restrictions.

Discuss your project ↗
Do curtains have to remain visible all the time?

No. A retractable arrangement can stack outside key views if there is enough space. Include the open position and the appearance of the stack in the design discussion.
