Reduce unwanted ambient light
Cover windows with a suitable fabric and an installation that controls light at the perimeter.
Cinemas & screening rooms / APPLICATION GUIDE
Home cinemas, preview rooms and small screening venues need control over ambient light and reflected sound. Curtains can treat windows and selected wall areas while allowing the room to return to everyday use.
Illustrative placement study. Curtain coverage, cavity and access are designed for your actual room.
THE ROOM & THE REQUIREMENT
Light entering around a curtain can wash out a projected picture. Reflective walls can also affect listening conditions, but adding drapery everywhere is not a substitute for an acoustic design that considers the speakers, seats and room dimensions.
Cover windows with a suitable fabric and an installation that controls light at the perimeter.
Use absorption where the cinema design calls for it, with the relevant frequency data.
Retract the curtains when the room is used for daylight activities or a different listening arrangement.
PLACEMENT & SPECIFICATION
Coordinate window treatment and side-wall drapes with the screen, seating and loudspeaker layout; keep speaker openings unobstructed unless a suitable transparent fabric is specified.
Performance boundaryAbsorptive curtains do not establish bass control or sound isolation to adjoining rooms. An absorptive cloth should not be assumed suitable over loudspeakers.

Culture & community
Theatres and black-box spaces use drapery to define what an audience sees and to adapt the room to different performances. Masking, acoustic treatment and light control should each have a clear role in the specification.
Culture & community
Community halls host meetings, parties, classes, performances and screenings. Retractable curtain systems can provide different combinations of visual masking, light control and exposed absorption for these uses.
Culture & community
Places of worship may need to balance spoken services, music, community events and the character of the building. Retractable acoustic curtains offer one way to vary treatment while keeping the room’s different uses in mind.
