Schools & classrooms / APPLICATION GUIDE

Support the room around the lesson.

Classrooms, school halls and teaching spaces often combine hard finishes, large windows and several activities. Curtains can add targeted absorption and make light levels more manageable for displays and presentations.

THE ROOM & THE REQUIREMENT

Speech conditions & presentation light.

A teaching room needs to work with its ventilation, furniture, background noise and occupancy. A curtain can contribute to the acoustic treatment, but choosing a fabric alone cannot establish that the completed room meets its educational acoustic brief.

01

Treat reflective window areas

Absorptive curtains can cover glazing when it is identified as a useful treatment position.

02

Manage display glare

Select light control for screens and projectors while retaining an appropriate teaching environment.

03

Adapt shared teaching spaces

Use open and closed curtain positions to support assemblies, drama and classroom activities.

PLACEMENT & SPECIFICATION

Make the detail
fit the room.

Consider window-side or rear-wall tracks with stack positions that keep displays, doors and ventilation accessible.

Performance boundaryCurtains do not by themselves certify classroom acoustic compliance or prevent noise passing between teaching spaces.

What to establish

Teaching activities
Record class sizes, seating arrangements and the uses of any shared hall.
Acoustic brief
Provide the project’s room targets or measured reverberation data for design review.
Operation and upkeep
Choose accessible controls and confirm cleaning, durability and the required fabric documentation.

Confirm the selected material’s certificates, care requirements and the final track and fixing design for your installation.

FABRIC STARTING POINTS

Build your shortlist.

Compare these ranges against the room brief. A suggested range is not a verified performance prediction for your room or selected lining.

YOUR PROJECT BRIEF

Bring the room
into the conversation.

Room and window measurements, teaching uses, occupancy, existing acoustic information and the school’s maintenance requirements.

Discuss your project ↗
Can curtains replace all other classroom treatment?

That depends on the room and its targets. Available curtain area, ceiling absorption, background noise and the full frequency response must be assessed together.
