Music & rehearsal rooms / APPLICATION GUIDE

Make room for a different sound.

Practice rooms, rehearsal studios and music departments need conditions that suit the musicians using them. Curtains can provide an adjustable area of absorption without permanently covering every wall.

Illustrative placement study. Curtain coverage, cavity and access are designed for your actual room.

THE ROOM & THE REQUIREMENT

Adaptable absorption for practice.

A small practice room and a large ensemble room need different approaches. Instruments also produce sound across different frequency ranges, so a single-number fabric rating cannot describe how the whole rehearsal will feel.

01

Vary the treated area

Open or close separate curtain sections to suit the rehearsal mode.

02

Address strong reflections

Target useful wall positions identified through room assessment.

03

Support teaching and recording

Create a repeatable curtain position for lessons, auditions or filmed performances.

PLACEMENT & SPECIFICATION

Make the detail
fit the room.

Allow separate runs around the rehearsal zone, with adequate stack space and clear access for instruments and equipment.

Performance boundaryCurtains are not a guarantee of safe sound levels or isolation from neighbouring rehearsal rooms. Those issues require separate assessment.

What to establish

Instruments and ensemble size
Describe the loudest and quietest uses rather than specifying only an average activity.
Frequency-dependent treatment
Compare band data and assess whether additional low-frequency treatment is needed.
Hearing and isolation brief
Treat musician exposure and noise transfer as separate requirements from reverberation control.

Confirm the selected material’s certificates, care requirements and the final track and fixing design for your installation.

FABRIC STARTING POINTS

Build your shortlist.

Compare these ranges against the room brief. A suggested range is not a verified performance prediction for your room or selected lining.

Wool Serge 800For comparing heavier acoustic fabric configurations.

Wool Serge 565An alternative weight to assess with the available track and treatment area.

Acoustic MoltonFor wide perimeter treatment with a masking function.

YOUR PROJECT BRIEF

Bring the room
into the conversation.

Room size, instruments, ensemble numbers, neighbouring uses and any measured reverberation or noise information.

Discuss your project ↗
Will heavier fabric always be the best choice?

Weight is only one factor. Compare the actual test results at the relevant frequencies, fullness and cavity, then check the required coverage and supporting track.
